He's anti-choice:
A lot of people mistakenly think that John McCain is "moderate" or even pro-choice on reproductive issues. Nothing could be further from the truth. Since being elected to Congress in the 80s, John McCain has consistently voted against the rights of women to control their own bodies.
Watch McCain dodge a question about insurance companies covering Viagra for men but not contraception.
We'll help McCain out here: He voted against mandating insurance companies to cover birth control medication. Twice.
He opposes equal pay for women:
McCain opposed the Lilly Ledbetter Act, which would allow women to sue employers for gender discrimination in pay. Yet he says he supports equal pay for women.
He touts his military record while consistently voting against veterans:
Numerous veterans groups give John McCain dismal ratings on his voting record and support for their issues. http://www.votesmart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=53270&type=category&category=66&go.x=16&go.y=5
You would think that a man who served his country would be more supportive of veterans and their families. McCain even opposed the recent GI Bill. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=4652517 Then he turned around and claimed credit for its passage! http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/19/mccain-bush-gi-bill/
His health care (non) plan is a travesty:
According to the Center For American Progress, "John McCain has a radical prescription for American health care that would unravel the employer-based health care system, raise taxes on middle-class American families, and leave millions of Americans with chronic conditions without coverage in an unregulated private insurance market. http://www.americanprogressaction.org/issues/2008/mccaintax/index.html
Disgraceful public behavior toward women: At a campaign event on Monday, the woman asked Senator McCain, "How do we beat the bitch?'' Senator McCain laughed along with the crowd as he said, "May I give the translation?'' "That's an excellent question,'' he said. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22762883-663,00.html
McCain is not just mean and creepy to his wife and family! He has a tendency to make inappropriate jokes about rape and violence against women, in addition to cruel remarks about the appearance of a teenaged Chelsea Clinton.
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno", said Senator McCain at a 1998 Republican fundraiser.
And like the remarks he made in Sturgis about Cindy and Miss Buffalo Chip, the Chelsea Clinton joke was scripted.
More recently, when a woman at a campaign appearance called Hillary Clinton a "bitch", McCain did not rebuke her for it.
